Welcome to The Phoenix Files!

This blog is a collection of papers and how-to articles I have written over the past 25+ years, as well as my travel journals and announcements.  Scholarly works from "The Library" on my old website, are labeled here as "Historica Tractatu."

My travels have had heavy influence on my work and are the 'back story' behind many of my designs. Some of my older journals are revised from the original, and most link to photo albums on Facebook.

Hats Arriving in Tubac

Bonnie Jaus, Gallery Shop Manager, asked "do you do Western styles?" Hmmm...

So after several weekends of watching Deadwood and scanning my resources for similar headwear, I decided to base my Western wear line on Victorian women's riding hats and turn of the century fascinators. I crafted the pink one from a "going to church" straw that I painted, and replaced the brim with a straw placemat. The teal one below is my third attempt at making a women's riding hat from scratch.

Tubac Center of the Arts is the core of Tubac’s artistic heritage and identity in southern Arizona. With it's roots dating back to 1961, this not for profit cultural center now sponsors a variety of member artist, regional and national exhibits, a performing arts series, art and cultural workshops for adults and children.  The board of directors continues to reflect the diversity of community support for the organization and the Center.  And, there are over 150 volunteers whose valuable contributions garner appreciation from the board, staff and community
